Welcome to the latest Helsby results roundup. We’ve had race victories, age category successes and club records broken since the last edition……….

Delamere 10k & Half Marathon

Last Sunday, Delamere forest hosted the rearranged trail series event and we had Helsby representation in both events:

In the 10k, we had Steph Hughes (185th, 64:49), Nesta Hawker (194th, 66:16) and Emma Pekarek (195th, 66:17)

And in the half, we had Les Dash (14th, 1:29:27), Phil Wood (35th, 1:35:47) and Joey Kelly (211th, 2:01:00)

Oulton Park Running GP

On the same day as Delamere, the Oulton Park Running GP took place.

Conor Sarsfield took gold in the half marathon with an 69:29 clocking, for a new club half marathon record, beating the previous mark set by Dave Norman back in 1997! – one of the longest standing records to go.

Andy Brookshaw took bronze (and 1st V40) in the 16 mile race in 1:37:10.

Michelle Purvis finished 211th (56th female) in the 10k in 59:43.

Cloud 9 Fell Race

We had a sizeable Helsby contingent in the Cloud 9 Fell Race, with notable age category successes for Debbie Read (1st in age cat) and Sarah Larkin (2nd in age cat).

Halewood 5k

Ian Mayhew, as the sole Helsby representative, took 1st place in the monthly Alfie’s Squad Halewood 5k last Saturday, clocking 16:55 for a narrow win.

Bologna 30k Race

Cat Kilbane completed the Bologna 30k race last weekend, coming in under the 2:40 barrier with a 2:39:54 clocking.

Rhayader Round the Lakes

Nick Ryder and Richard Hankins were the Helsby representatives in the Elan Valley for the Rhayader Round the Lakes 30k race, finishing 104th and 111th respectively.

Parkrun Club Records

On 22nd February, we had 2 of our all time club Parkrun records broken at Widnes. Conor Sarsfield broke the overall mens’ club record, lowering Mark Gittins old record of 16:37 down to 16:00. Mark, meanwhile, lowered his own V45 club record down to 16:05 at the same event.

Upcoming Races

The next club race on the calendar is the 4th round of the Borders League on Sunday 16th March. It’s a very local one for us being only down the road at Capenhurst, so hopefully we’ll have a great turnout for it.

Quiz Night

Tonight (Friday) night is quiz night at the club, hosted by our mens’ captain Mike Fryer. 7pm start, £5 a participant (with all money raised going to Tommy’s Baby Charity, a great cause). Doesn’t matter if you don’t already have a team, come along and we’ll find you a team!

Track Night
