4 Villages Half Marathon

We somehow forgot to include the 4VHM in the last blog edition! But full Helsby results from our signature race are below. It was a great day, with a number of PB performances, some great pacing from our pacing teams. Andy Brookshaw and Hannah Cowley (running for Dragons but 2nd claim Helsby) scooped the local honours to get their names engraved on the famous and much coveted locals trophies!

Croxteth Park Cross Country

A week last Sunday, we sent a strong team to Croxteth Park for the final fixture of the North West Sunday League, and we had an overall race winner, with Mark Gittins romping home clear of the field in 1st place. A great achievement, making it 2 Helsby winners in that league this season (Chris Larkin won as a Helsby 2nd claimer at Arrowe Park in December) – we hadn’t had a winner in that league in many years and now we’ve had 2 in the space of 3 months!

Unfortunately, we’re still waiting for the official race results to be published (the cross country league does sometimes take a while), so we’ll list the full Helsby results for this race in the next edition of the blog.

Village Bakery Half Marathon

Last Sunday saw a strong Helsby turnout for the Village Bakery half marathon on the Wrexham Industrial Estate. Full Helsby results are below: there’s some huge half marathon PB’s in this list!

Nick Beer 10k

The Nick Beer 10k in Llandudno had a sole Helsby representative in Andy Bromley, coming home in 19th place in 37:43. A welcome return to fitness ahead for Andy ahead of Borders this weekend!

Parbold Hill Race

We had 3 representatives in the famously muddy Parbold Hill Race last Saturday. Results below: special mention to Vanessa Griffiths for winning her age category!

South Cheshire Way

New member Matt Hampson has let us know that he made the first known completion of the South Cheshire Way, 55km from Grindley Brook to Mow Cop in 9 hours 23 minutes. Matt’s said that he’d “love someone from the club to take on that trail and smash my time”, so the challenge is open to anyone who wants to give it a go! Parkrun Milestones

We had a double Parkrun Milestone day at Delamere last Saturday with Joey Kelly and Phil Wood completing their 100th and 50th respectively. The double dose of Old Pale Heights didn’t seem to sap their legs too much as both also clocked big Half Marathon PB’s at Wrexham the following day!

Upcoming Races

Looking ahead to club races over the next couple of weeks, we’ve got the 4th round of the Borders League at Trac Mon, Anglesey this Sunday 23rd February.

Then we’ve also got Liverpool & District cross country league on Saturday 1st March at Beacon Park (WN8 7RU). Separate races for men and women – women’s underway at 1:30pm, men’s at 2:15pm. Further details available from John Whitehead.

New Booking System

In case anyone wasn’t already aware, we’ve replaced the old Excel spreadsheet (for booking onto training sessions and races) with the much more efficient Spond app. It’s free to download on any Smartphone and the code for Helsby Running Club is MUYJO.
