Only one runner from Helsby at this event, Phil Gillard. This was the 2nd event in the Liverpool & District XC league but incorportated one of the premier XC events of the season, the European Cross Country Trials, so the standard was exceptionally high
A frosty, sunny afternoon in Liverpool with conditions underfoot being ideal for X country – hard ground in patches and a few muddy spots but generally forgiving ground. A three lap course which mixed runners trying to qualify for the GB team with club runners from the Lancs League and Liverpool League gave a well populated field with a vast spectrum of abilities
