Jim Jones was doing his bit for the Scottish Independence debate by sticking Cheshire on the map on the Northern part of our United Kingdom. His race report below
“The race went from the island of Berneray to Lochmaddy on the Island of North Uist. (the islands are connected by a causeway). We were taken to the start by bus and spoilt with a very generous lunch, after a hot shower, in the Hammersay House Hotel at the finish. The route was undulating on a single track road with fantastic scenery all the way. It was a well hosted event and a great excuse to visit a fantastic place.

Also – a race report from the local community newsletter:
2 Islands Half Marathon – Berneray to Lochmaddy
The third running of this annual race took place on Saturday 24 August in near perfect conditions. A record number of runners and walkers took part (48), including those from Berneray, Uist and the islands, but also this year from the mainland, the south of England, Germany and Australia!
Ross Clark of Hunters Bog Trotters set a record time for the event of 1:16:56, shaving 11 minutes off the previous fastest time – yes he went pretty much like a rocket!
The organisers would like to thank all for coming – it seems folk enjoyed it, and many are aiming to come back for more next year! The organisers also want to thank all those who helped and especially the management and staff of Hamersay House Hotel in Lochmaddy, who put on a splendid spread for us after the event and provided a great venue for the presentations and some much-needed R&R! The full results are available here. There are plenty of pictures on the event’s Facebook page.
(2014 results should be updated soon)
Bank Holiday Monday saw the Cilcain Show Race, a loop from Cilcain to Moel Famau and back. Jackie’s race report below
‘Tom, Phil Roberts, Max and me did the Cilcain Moel Famau fell race yesterday. Results not out yet. Great race to do on a wet bank holiday! Mist virtually down to Cilcain itself! Cool for running, as muddy as it gets. Well done to Max for a top finish and to Phil & Tom for battling it out on the uphill road finish after all the mud (results not out yet, so not sure on their exact positions). Good to see Steff Charman back fell running again. Mick has a good run too. The rain didn’t dampen the ever faithful support from Joe & Mario, thanks. Just spotted the pair of them at Lynn Ogwen at Saturdays Tryfan down hill race for Peter Douglas’s memorial too! Photo on the Welsh Fell Runners Website at www.wfra.org.uk). Village day very well supported despite the rain, the usual, live music, morris dancers, dog show, greasy pole, best marrow and victoria sponge etc etc. I spent my left over entry money on produce from the plant store, the lads on a well earned pint at the pub!
Details and hopefully 2014 results should appear on the Cilcain show page soon.
