Dates for your diaries – update – 10 July 21

Ladies and gents,

A few updates to the “dates for your diaries”, it looks like we are getting busy again 🙂

Club Championship

Given the sparsity of races this year and the perceived difficulty of getting an entry, we have decided to try and run a club championship of a handful of races which will not require people to be fastest on the button to get an entry. This is the current plan:

  • Helsby RC event along the Oakmere way – 28th July – organised by Jackie
  • Helsby RC event using Old Pale, Delamere – 11th or 13th August – organised by Fitzy
  • Park run – Delamere – date to be decided when Park run starts again, if Delamere does not start up in time, we will selevt another venue
  • Park run – Phoenix Park, Runcorn – date to be decided when Park run starts again
  • Farndon 10K – Col T has managed to secure 30 place – Sunday 26th September

We will organize a points system, allowing people to be competitive if they enter 3 or 4 of the events, hopefully with the ability to have a bit of an awards evening into the autumn

Our expectation is that the Borders League and XC’s will allow us to resume normal racing thereafter.

Chester 10K

We are providing marshaling support on Sunday 18th July.

Works party for the rugby pitches

You may be aware that HCSC has taken over the lease for the rugby pitches, this is great news as it gives us more access to the facility and potentially the ability to develop a running track. However with opportunity comes responsibility and we need to be doing our bit to help maintain the pitches, we have therefore committed to being part of a work party on Saturday 31st July.

Pie Peas Race

Many of our runners have entries carried over from last year – Wednesday 4th Augustvrac.niftyentries.com/Pie-and-Peas-5-2020

Summer Handicap

Wednesday 25th August

Open Day

HCSC intend to have an open day on Saturday 29th August and will require volunteers to help out

Frodsham Downhill Run

We have been asked to provide marshals and timekeeping for this event – Sunday 30th August

AGM

Albeit a few months later than usual, we intend to have a face-to-face AGM on Wednesday 15th September after a shortened club run.

Borders League

The Borders League will resume in the Autumn, we have been asked to organize a race for October or Novemberwww.bordersleague.org.uk

2022 Four Villages Half Marathon

Date set for Sunday 16th January

My daughter is 11 and would like to start running. Do you have related classes. She runs at school and enjoys it and would like to build up her running

    Many thanks Damon

As most of our running is done on roads, Helsby Running Club only caters for those 16 and over. Although in certain circumstances, children of members can participate with their parent(s).

However, a number of local clubs do cater for U13s (the England Athletics age category that your daughter falls into). These include:
West Cheshire Athletics Club (based at Ellesmere Port Sports Village)
      Halton and Frodsham Harriers
      Warrington Athletics Club
      Vale Royal Athletics

I assist coaching a U13 to U20 middle distance running group at West Cheshire AC, so let me know if your daughter is interested in that. I will send you my contact details via email.

Contact details for the other clubs can be found via England Athletics club finder https://www.englandathletics.org/find-an-athletics-club/

Hope that your daughter finds a group.that suits her.

      Kind regards

      Tim, Helsby RC Membership Secretary
