Ladies and gents,
Most of you will have seen the latest advice from England Athletics, which states that we should avoid any face to face activity, this includes training, races and meetings. England Athletics are our governing body and our insurance from UK Athletics is provided via our membership of them. Helsby Running Club will adhere to this advice.
So for the avoidance of doubt, until further notice, our training nights, committee meetings, social events, races and club championship are cancelled or postponed. When the situation changes, we will issue new advice based on guidance from the Government, health authorities and England Athletics.
We will use social media and e-mail to continue our sense of community and keep us sane.
So, quite a negative message here however, there are some positive things I would hope we can relate to:
1. Going outdoors and exercising builds our immune systems, we should continue with this both to maintain our fitness, boost our mental health and reduce the potential burden on our health service and systems. Please do this within the Government issued guidelines on social distancing etc.
2. We need to look after each other. There will be some of us who need to self-isolate, either because we are more at risk, we have come into contact with the virus or we are suffering symptoms. There will also be members of the running club who are front line health workers or who are critical to maintaining our infrastructure. Do not hesitate to use our running club networks to ask for help; getting shopping, child care etc. Please ask I know we will respond.
3. Finally we know how to organise and mobilise, we are a small group of people who organise large scale events, involving the authorities and community groups. I think that in the coming months and weeks, these skills will be needed within our local community and I look forward to being able to respond.
