The Warford 10 mile road race was most appropriately race 10 in the Helsby Summer Series. A large field of 316 runners enjoyed a well organised 3 lap course around the undulating roads of Great Warford.
Adair and myself represented Helsby with Andy Smith cycling over to provide support. Whilst he couldn’t quite match Joe’s vocal talents Andy did try to make up for it by appearing at 4 separate points of the course to cheer us on.

Those successfully completing the course were rewarded with a fine memento, not the usual tee-shirt or medal but a specially commissioned bottle of Joggers Tipple “Great Warford 10 (2009)” Ale complete with a label showing the David Lewis centre. The starting and finishing point for the race. Being a Real Ale fan I think Andy was wishing he had done the race, though Adair was slightly worried about the bits floating round in the beer until I pointed out that it was bottle conditioned. Perhaps we could commission something similar for the 4 Villages.

Note that we seem to have gained an extra Helsby runner (Jim O’Hara) but I think that’s just an error in the results.
