Llangynhafal Loop Fell Counter 1 Results

Well what a great turnout for the first fell counter for this season.

Seven hardy Helsby souls braved the route while two marshals in Andy and Joe were stuck with the wind at the top of Moel Famau. Thanks for the support! I’d almost suggest it was better to run as we had some nice sheltered running in the first valley leading up to the stone gully, where the sun broke through the clouds. Once at the top there was a great opportunity to run along the path on nice undulating ground albeit with some stronger winds but the route down from Moel Famau was helped with some great support trackside from the Helsby contingent watching and also with Joe shouting “it’s all downhill from now on”……apart from a little sting in the tail of another climb mysteriously forgotten about…..i’m sure Alec has forgiven him now…

Some great performances too, with new Helsby recruit Danny storming home against some very experienced runners in 7th place, an achievement noticed by the organizer at prize giving and it will be great to see what Danny can achieve in the upcoming races. Well done also to Chris Baynham-Hughes running in his first fell race and from what I can tell he thoroughly enjoyed it. A great result from Chris and once he finds his hill legs he’ll just keep improving.

So if anyone has not yet tried a fell race with Helsby just ask around, the next club counter is Llantisilio on Sat 24th April so you have a few weeks to train on Helsby hill until then.
