Greetings
Pie and Peas on Wednesday 6th August was our 10th road counter of the season and thirty Helsby vests ensured a sea of green for the supporters on the night. What an awesome turnout for the club. Well done to Colin Bishop, Colin Thompson and Carol Shaw who were all age category winners on the night and to Max Wainwright who won first unattached but is now a Helsby runner! Looks like there is even more excellent competition within the club. Colin Bishop was first man home for Helsby and Joanne was first lady. Well done to all who ran and have a look at the team photo for some nice poses! Also, as Jackie told me “Special mention to Paul Bulmer who ran around with his guide runner plus Jane A in a brilliant 55min on a fairly tricky course for Paul.”

Sunday saw Jim Jones at the Lowther Lakeland Trail and in Jim’s words “Its a great 13 mile route and the Lowther Show is a brilliant day out. Shame about the rain today with the regards the show. However, the conditions were near ideal for the duration of the race with light rain throughout. This is one that I’ll be putting in my diary for next year.
Think I finished 39th in 1:56 (Garmin time) http://connect.garmin.com/activity/562127949 Results should appear here: http://www.lowthershow.co.uk/what-s-on/lowther-trail-run
In other news
This Saturday is the Darwen Gala and Memorial Race, information sent from Paul via email previously http://darwenrunning.weebly.com/darwen-gala-new.html “The Darwen Gala fell race has been renamed this year in memory of my sister in law and Jamie Dowdall’s wife Catherine. Jamie runs with the Darwen Dashers but often trains with Helsby through the winter. The race is good for all runners, hills are runnable, up to Darwen tower along the moors then back, race is 4.7 miles and is about a mile longer than previous years which makes this a better race and finishes with a free beer. Darwen Gala also forms part of the the day, so bring yourself or all the family for a great fun filled day.”
Don’t forget it’s the brilliant Robbie Wobbler on Wednesday 20th August, the club organised hill event of the season with ascent, descent, trail, woods, charm and cake.
Wednesday 20th August @ 7pm, parking at Forest Hills, Frodsham, WA6 6HH. registration from 6:15pm
If you can’t run and would like to help then Chris could always do with some marshals or a photographer so drop him a line at TheWobbler@baynham-hughes.com This is a fantastic event and will be once again with the enthusiasm and dedication of Helsby members. It’s events like this that have helped the tremendous growth of the club and with Chris’s hard work we can make things a little less stressful by lending him a hand.
For those not fancying the hills there is also the Ellesmere Port 5k on the same night which is dedicated to a local runner who died far too young, an event I’ll be running or marshalling at as required as Neil was a friend of mine. Details and entry as below
http://www.ellesmereportrunningclub.org.uk/capenhurst_5k.htm
as always if I’ve missed anything then let me know. I’ll try and keep the blog updated with results not yet published.
Keep on running
