Helsby RC News from 19th to 25th December 2016

Hi everyone, I hope you’ve all had a fantastic Christmas and still managed to get out and do a bit of running – the Parkruns have certainly been busy! It’s been a bit of an odd week for the race calendar. There’s nothing in the inbox but I know quite a few people have been taking part in races the past few days. To avoid any confusion I’ve only included events from the Monday to Sunday, as we usually do. So there’s still plenty of time to send in reports from the past few days, and they’ll be picked up in the next blog. We did of course have the Xmas Handicap on Wednesday, which has already been covered in a separate update.

Parkrun

On Christmas Eve we had a fantastic turn out of 12 runners from Helsby at Delamere, and a total of 19 Helsby members across all Parkruns. The results were pretty awesome too. Neil Finnegan finished 3rd at the Chester Parkrun, while Darren O’Connor and David Wiggins both set new PBs. Delamere runners were not to be outdone though! New PB’s were set at Delamere by Colin Thompson, Davyd Mitchell and Tim Palmer. Meanwhile …… up in Keswick, there was a new PB by Alfie Grady.
There was an additional Parkrun on Christmas day at Delamere and we had a further 7 people participate there. Parkrun’s consolidated weekly results finish on the Saturday so hopefully any Parkruns’ hosted on Christmas Day will be included in next weeks consolidated report.
This is probably a good point to acknowledge all the time given up by Parkrun volunteers throughout the year. I know that Helsby RC members have been key to organising and marshalling some of the local Parkruns for some time now. Well done and thanks to all the volunteers.

Dates For Your Diary

So I think that all remains for this week’s blog is a few reminders, and dates for your diaries.

New Years Eve -31st December 2016

4 Villages Half Marathon Recce – You should have already received a detailed email about this from Colin Thompson. Meet at the club at 10.30 and there will be different paced groups to cater for all abilities so that nobody is left behind.
Also please remember that we are still looking for people to help out with the 4VHM on 15/01/17. Please contact Laura Baynham-Hughes if you haven’t already offered your services, or if you know someone else who wants to help.

New Year’s Day – 1st January 2017

I’m not aware of any road races over the next week, but there are two races in the Welsh Fell Running Calendar on New Year’s Day; the appropriately named ‘Morning After’ in Church Stretton, and ‘Tour de Lyn Lydaw’ in Snowdonia:
The Morning After – BS category race – 8km/275m 5miles/900ft – 11am, £5 on the day – Church Stretton Social Club, Essex Road, Church Stretton.
Tour de Lyn Lydaw – CS category race – 8km/181m 5miles/594ft – 10.30am, £2 on the day – Pen-y-Pass Youth Hostel, Snowdonia.

Saturday  – 7th January 2017

X-Country Cheshire Championships – Birchwood Forest Park, Warrington – time TBC

*****

And something to chew on:  according to Runners World – 3 Quality Street = 122 calories = 1 mile.
Best Wishes for 2017, from the Helsby RC Bloggers.
