Race information

Race day is Sunday 17 January 2016, start time 10:30am. Help make it a special one!

  1. Read the race entry details page for race rules and conditions — you need to do this before entering.
  2. Decide if you want a souvenir race running top (choose your size and order on the Fabian site). We are again running a competition with local schools for the artwork design. Last year's was a cracker, so high hopes for another high standard of entry!
  3. Have a look at the route map here.
  4. Only when you've done this, <<click to enter the race>> on the Fabian site.
Doing this you confirm you've read the race entry details page and agree to the conditions.

Any questions, use this email address (preferred). But please try and answer your own question if you can — many queries are routine and you might get a quicker answer by reading the website. Not that we don't want to help you understand! Thank you for supporting this race and enjoy your run! Have you thought about joining our club?

Race booklet

Download the 2015 race booklet for general information [PDF, 755KB] with updated map for the 2012 minor route change at Dunham-on-the-hill. Lots of interesting stuff about the race and all your queries answered! This link will be updated when the 2016 booklet is ready.

Race map and parking

Detailed information on race parking is in this PDF download. There's an updated race route map including the slight deviation from the previous course at Dunham (new in 2012) here. If you know the old course and want to recce the change, it's very similar and just stays on the A56 for a short extra stretch before taking the next left at the Dunham Arms.

Finish area

Medals and water will be in the goody bag, handed out on both sides of the funnel if possible (for later finishers, goody bags might be on the left hand side only, we'll have volunteers to guide you). The funnel will take runners right through the yard and on to the field, where you can meet family and friends and visit the attractions which the school is putting on! The field is the main area where runners can meet your friends and family after the race, because the school yard itself became too crowded last year. There will be food and hot/cold drinks on the school field, and bouncy castles too!

It will be possible for spectators to walk through the school yard to see the finish on Denbigh Close, but access to the Close is through a narrow gate so you might have to be patient when busy. Download the school flyer here [PDF, 48KB]

Race running tops

This year we're running a competition with the local schools we pass on the race route and those nearby, to design the artwork for the T-shirts. We're trying to do our bit to engage the next generation of runners and hope you'll support this. The t-shirt order has now been finalised and sent for manufacture — sorry, no more changes to your order. T-shirts are collected on race day from race HQ. Come early to avoid the queue and get ready for your race! If you didn't pre-order, we'll also have stock for sale on race day.

Your email

Please be careful adding your email to your entry — it is our primary way of contacting you with any late-breaking news. We will not pass your address on without permission. You'll receive race information, your number and chip in the post early in the New Year. We'll also send details on your technical running top, if you ordered one.

Important! :: transfers and cancellations

  1. We get significant numbers of no-shows on the day.
  2. We also have people desperate to snap up spare places.
  3. If you're injured, busy or otherwise can't do the race please, release your place.
  4. To cancel your entry, please contact support@fabian4.co.uk by 4 January.
  5. To transfer, use View/Amend Entry at www.fabian4.co.uk/competitor/viewentry.aspx by 4 January. You'll need access to the email you used to register.

Run Britain - huge running community

Huge thanks to our regular headline sponsor of Essar Oil UK and welcome back to Asics, another long-term supporter. We're also grateful to the team at Running Bear, friends of the race for many years, together with Mick Hall Photos, Northern Running Guide and Xtra Mile Events. Without their help this race either wouldn't happen or would cost you a lot more!

As well as giving you a great race, we also support a number of local charities from the money raised. Please take a look to the groups that benefit from your efforts. We'd like to thank in advance all the volunteers, helpers, marshals, water-carriers, transport people, commercial partners, our photographer, the good folk of Helsby and surrounding villages, and everyone else who makes this special event possible.
